5.0 out of 5 stars Great computer with Speed and Cadence, October 14, 2010

I really like the bc1609. It was an upgrade for my cateye velo 5 and I enjoy having cadence, average speed and even temperature and stopwatch readings. I also like the fact that it can easily be installed on the stem, as for a road bike handle bar space is limited. So far I got a few hundred miles on this and it worked with no problems.

There are a few minor disadvantages:
- The cadence attachment does not plug into the mount quite as well as I'd like. Especially when mounting on the stem, the contacts need to be bend a little.
- Also for larger frames (I got a 62 cm), the cadence wire is too short to reach the chain stay. So I mounted my cadence sensor on the down tube, works great.
- The front wheel magnet will not easily fint flat spokes (I had to install it at the very center, where my spokes are round).

Having a wired computer has advantages over wireless:
- No transimission problems, once the thing is installed, it works.
- Smaller... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Shows everything I want from a bike computer, November 21, 2010

After comparing several bike computers, I chose the BC1609. Interestingly, this one came with the cadence wiring though I don't think the description on Amazon mentions it (so I'm not sure if yours will come with cadence). I decided to go with a wired a computer for the extra reliability because I ride a lot at night with high-power CygoLite LED lights. And multiple people have said wireless bike computers have interference issues with close-by LED lights.

While riding most riders will only need current speed and trip distance. And that's usually what I have on the main screen. Once I get home after a ride, it's nice to look at my average and maximum speeds. BC1609 seems accurate and was very easy to calibrate. All I needed was my bike tire size for the initial set-up. BC1609 can be used on two separate bikes with the optional 2nd bike kit - though I have not tried this feature yet.

I also called Sigma to see if I can keep the great backlight on all the time... Read more

This is the first bike computer I've ever owned, and I think it's just perfect!
I'm over 50 and use readers for almost everything, so I bought the Sigma 1609 because it has large numbers. I can read everything on the screen, no problem! It's a wired device, and was very easy to install in about 15 minutes. It worked the first time without any adjustments. The spoke magnet needs to be closer than 5mm to the sensor that is mounted to the fork. Just use a 6mm open end wrench to make a visual check on the distance.
The computer is easy to set-up. Easy to use and easy to remove from holder when you jump off your bike for a few minutes. I think everyone would be happy with this bike computer.
